Apartments for sale on Lake Como from €1m to €5m
There is a fairly good choice of apartments priced between €1m and €5m on Lake Como; newly built apartments with great views and a high spec finish, restored apartments, penthouse apartments or a portion of a historic villa.
Development land is limited and a small number of top quality local construction companies produce high spec, spacious new apartments completed to high international standards. You will find top Italian brand kitchens, the use of beautiful marble, stone and wood, and state of the art electronic controls for everything from underfloor heating to automatic closing of the shutters. Underground parking and great lake views can be expected with various extra facilities – perhaps a boat dock with electronic boat lifts, a wonderful swimming pool or a huge terrace for entertaining guests.
Period villas which have been divided in a thoughtful way are not so easy to find. Those which are attractive are likely to offer well-proportioned, grand rooms with high ceilings, original frescoes or wood panelling and spacious grounds.
Often the international buyer with vision will find the solution lies in undertaking a project to produce the right end result. It may involve buying and combining two or three smaller apartments. Or perhaps buying an entire villa and dividing it thoughtfully to produce a spacious lateral or duplex apartment for the owner’s use, with one or more other apartments being sold on. It is a worthwhile investment to end up with the right grand apartment at a very attractive cost.
Price will vary with location, generally being most expensive in Como and reducing as you proceed northwards along the lake’s western or eastern shores. A substantial premium is commanded by apartments which are lakefront. Apartments which have substantial outside space, parkland or which are within walking distance of restaurants and cafes are also highly sought after. An apartment with its own private grounds and swimming pool will undoubtedly command a premium.
