It’s reaching that time of year and autumn is gently settling on the lake. A fine mist in the morning is burnt off by the sun revealing the tops of the mountains, not yet snow covered while daily temperatures at lake level generally remain around 20°.
That means it is time for the Italian autumnal traditions to commence and in restaurants around the lake you will now see chestnuts on the menu. We had lunch with clients in a family run trattoria in the village of Tosnacco above Moltrasio where we ate sausage and chestnut ravioli.
This Sunday afternoon sees the annual chestnut festival in the lakeside village of Brienno. A happy family event, drawing both locals and visitors alike.
