People worldwide are attracted to Lake Como for many reasons including the lifestyle activities there. Throughout the year events bring visitors and home owners to the lake to enjoy the atmosphere that these bring.
Keeping fit whilst on the lake is a way many people choose to spend their time – whether it’s swimming in the lake from a beach or one of the lidos, waterskiing, mountain biking for the spectacular birds’ eye views or cycling in a peleton of lycra-clad enthusiasts along the lower lake road. Running is another popular sport and the focus currently of the more enthusiastic aficionados.
This weekend, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July, sees the Lake Como Marathon. A true test in endurance, or as its aptly called an extreme marathon! There are two options for this marathon starting in the city of Como on the western leg of the lake – the ‘standard’ 35km marathon or the 102 km option!

The full course takes the runners along the lakeshore to the village of Cernobbio from where they climb up to the Spina Verde to head over to Campione d’Italia on Lake Lugano before heading back to the lake’s shore at Argegno on Lake Como. From here a steady climb of 700m brings runners to the village of Pigra where our own Villa Peduzzi is located, then on across the mountain ranges before dropping down into Tremezzo and along the lake to the lake shore in Menaggio where the course finishes.
Not one for the faint hearted with 5,900m of vertical over the course. We wish you all the best if you are taking part this year!
