Filming was completed yesterday on Lake Como for the Netflix Murder Mystery, with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, to be released in 2019.
Various locations on the western shore of Lake Como have been used from Como to Argegno. There has been considerable excitement in Argegno over the 5 days of filming, as well as considerable disruption. 300 people arrived with fleets of vehicles, huge quantities of technical equipment, all parking taken over by the film crews, actors, stuntmen, cameramen, technicians, caterers and film extras, with most of the restaurants shut to the public. Film crews are a hungry bunch!
On 2nd and 3rd August a car chase was filmed right outside our office in Argegno, with a helicopter taking footage of a Ferrari Testrossa being driven at speed through Argegno and onwards. We were on the spot from our perfect vantage point when disaster struck!
Our sources tell us that the plan on the third run was for the Ferrari to clip the wing mirror of an oncoming Peugeot. The Adam Sandler-lookalike stuntman came round the bend past our office at high speed as the Peugeot pulled out. It seems the stuntman was going much too fast, so was pretty much on the wrong side of the road and arrived more quickly than the Peugeot stuntman had expected.
These are Ultissimo’s world-exclusive pictures of the crash.
Taking final instructions before the third high-speed run……
Oops! The Ferrari Testarossa can’t stop in time…..
….. and it’s no longer driveable
The following day, incredibly, there were three identical red Ferraris available…… just in case.
Fast forward to 21 August and the film crew was back for 3 more days of filming in Argegno. This time the historic back streets, the old mule tracks running between tightly packed ancient properties, were converted into a street market with chase scenes and more excitement. We caught the stuntman who stands in for Adam Sandler practicing his fall as part of a scene where the hero is chased through the Italian market.
The stunt double practicing……
Normal life has resumed in Argegno and along the western shore. The restaurants and cafes are busy with the usual mix of locals, international home-owners and tourists, with an air of expectation as we look forwards to the release of Murder Mystery on Netflix next year. It will be great fun spotting the Como locations that we know so well.
