Period properties for sale on Lake Como from €1.75m to €4m
Lake Como is renowned, since the days of Pliny the Younger, as providing exquisite homes in the most wonderful location for the discerning wealthy. From the original owners through the turbulent times when pirates operated on the lake to the construction in the late 19th century of many wonderful villas owned by silk merchants, grand villas have been the distinctive hallmark of Lake Como.
At the more modest levels you will find apartments created by the conversion of period villas, or occasionally smaller period properties – although 100 years ago most of the stylish properties tended to be on a grand scale. There are surprisingly few period villas which have been converted into apartments and most conversions are poorly laid out; it takes patience to find those that will please our international clients.
The best value is obtained from buying a villa requiring complete modernisation and then having this undertaken for you. It is unusual to find a villa which has been maintained to the standards our clients expect, so do not be surprised if at the very least you need to update the kitchens and bathrooms and undertake complete internal redecoration.
3-5 bedrooms and 150 - 400m2 of internal living space
Original period features and high ceilings
Great lake views, terraces and gardens
Private parking spaces, but often no garage
A short drive to local amenities
Finding a period property in a sunny position with a good degree of privacy and limited traffic noise is the challenge we take on for a lot of our clients. It is quite likely that there will be no public advertising of the property and we rely on our strong local network to unearth these opportunities. And remember that most period villas were built in a period of considerable wealth, so smaller homes are less common.
