No, this is not news of seismic activity on Lake Como, but the announcement of the long-awaited project to build new tunnels to ease traffic flow along the western shore of Lake Como. Construction contracts were signed on 30 December 2020 and the work begins this autumn.
Shifting 1.5 million cubic metres of rock and earth and creating 9.8km of tunnels and elevated roads is not going to be done in the blink of an eye. But roll forward 7 years and we should see a real transformation for travel and accessibility on the western shore of Lake Como. Long traffic delays when a bus meets an articulated truck on a narrow corner will be a thing of the past.
